Colby Garr

Mr. Garr teaches 7th/8th grade History at Northwest Arkansas Classical Academy. The 2018-2019 school year is his fifth year with Responsive Education and his sixth year teaching. Mr. Garr was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and graduated from Van Buren High School. His work experience has ranged from being the caretaker of historic sites to managing a family restaurant and from the medical field, where he worked for five years as an orthopedic technician, to tutoring and substitute teaching. Mr. Garr became an ordained minister and spiritual counselor in 2002 and has performed his ministry duties pro bono for over sixteen years. In addition to his ministry credentials, Mr. Garr holds a B.S. in History with Social Studies Teacher Licensure from the University of Arkansas Fort Smith. When offered the chance to join Classical Academy in 2014, he pursued and attained qualifications for teaching 6th/7th grade Literature (which he taught in 2014-2015). He also taught Logic for his first three years at Classical Academy and Arkansas History for his first four years. He sponsored Chess Club for two years and is the current Game Club sponsor. Mr. Garr lives in Bella Vista, Arkansas, with his wife Rhea. They have been happily married since 2005. Outside of school, Mr. Garr enjoys playing various games (chess, card games, strategy games, etc), performing historical research, reading, writing, gardening, and spending time with his friends and family.
